i love you
all your little hows and
ways
more and more, i love
you
and more, even, than all the fireflies
that grace a deep sky
or all the faeries that are nearly caught
as they drop their kisses upon your spirit
i love you in all your
trembling
unfolding
you-ness
i love you
and it is my gift
every day
to meet a new world
that couldn’t have ever existed
until you came here
thank you
for
bringing me with you

Dakota and I were practicing writing (he holds the pen and I put my hand over his and help him write the letters), and he was telling me everyone’s names that he wanted to write down.
We went through the immediate family and then he said, “And noooooooow, I write da names of da Beebles. I write Jooooohn. And I write Paw….and I write Ingo….and I write Orge! Der dey are, da Beebles!”
Jesus Christ, I love this kid.

I absolutely love it when Dakota poses for the camera. Some days he’ll plop on my lap and make a series of silly faces, each one prefaced with, “Otay…now…take DIS pitcher…” and then I have to show it to him on the screen. His delight is contagious and reminds me of why I love photography so much, why I am, in fact, a virtual slave to this art.
For this one, he shouted, “Mama! Mama! Take a pitcher of DIS!” and then proceeded to bend over and do a half hand-stand complete with a toppling finale.
I’m coming to adore all these little things about Dakota that are just pure boy: the way he loves to dig in the dirt, getting Summer caked under his fingernails, the constant earth tattoos on the pads of his feet, the fascination with insects. It’s all such sweetness.
I love who he is.

These are from a recent photo session for a friend of mine who is expecting her third child.
Bridget is a lovely woman, who is quite literally full of life!
